Gutenburg Castle
Switzerland, Madiswil, Gutenburg, Burgstelle
Description:
Gutenburg Castle was a medieval fortress built in the XII century. It is located in the village of the same name, which is part of the city of Madisville in the province of the municipality of Bern. The castle towered above the village on a nearby hill. Its location was successful due to its proximity to Langenthal and the passing roads. Gutenburg became the ancestral home of the barons of Ucigen, who owned not only the fortress and the castle, but also the local territories and the monastery. In the XIII year, the possession changed its owner, it became Peter Fornberg. After the French invasion in 1798, the castle was abandoned.
