Castle New Bümplitz
Switzerland, canton of Bern, Bümplitz.
Description:
New Bümplitz Castle, located in the suburbs of Bern, Bümplitz, is built on the site of the ancient medieval castle Old New Bümplitz, whose history begins in the X century. The XVIII century was a time of transformation for morally obsolete inconvenient feudal buildings. In 1742, the New Bümplitz was built southwest of the Old Castle, according to the trends of the time it was surrounded by parks and gardens.
The castle-palace passed from owner to owner, until in 1839 it was in the hands of Johann Friedrich Albrecht Tribolet, a medical luminary of Switzerland, who arranged a psychiatric clinic within the walls of the Old and New Castles. The following owners organized a boarding school for boys in the castle, which existed until 1882. The final ownership of the New Bümplitz Castle passed to Bern only in 1977. In 1979-80, the building was reconstructed, the moat and the drawbridge were restored.
The general Baroque style was retained, but the northeast wing of the castle where the restaurant opened was decided in concrete and glass. In the remaining rooms of the castle there are offices, archives, conference rooms.
