Ryumligen Castle
Switzerland, 328 Rümligen, Schloss
Description:
Ryumligen Castle, which is located above the Gürbetal Valley, in the city of Ryumligen, in the canton of Bern, Switzerland, was founded at the end of the XI century as the residence of the barons of Ryumligen.
In 1684 Samuel Frishing came to the city. In 1709 he bought the castle Ryumligen. After that, the castle was completely reconstructed in the Baroque style. The oldest part of the castle, the main tower, is now topped with a mansard roof.
Since then, the castle has always passed from generation to generation by the Frishing family. From Rudolf Franz Frishing, all possessions passed to his son Johann Rudolf Frishing with his wife Elizabeth Sophie Frishing. After Johann's death, in 1838 his daughter, Sophie Rosina Frishing, with her husband Ludwig von Wattenville, inherited.
From 1927 to 1980, the castle belonged to Elizabeth de Meron, who was a daughter, Ludwig von Wattenville, and from 1980 to 2012 his granddaughter Sibyll Stoker-Scherera-Castelle.
Today, Ryumligen Castle is also privately owned and is not open to public visits.
