Monument to Heinrich Pestalozzi

Lintheschergasse 7, 8001 Zurich, Switzerland

Description:

Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi is a great Swiss educator and philosopher who contributed to the development of creative abilities, as well as the raising of mental and spiritual strength in children and adults. One of the monuments to the great sage was erected on Lintenstrasse Street in the city of Zurich. The monument is a figure of Henry leading by the hand of a little boy who attentively listens to the instructions of the teacher. The sculpture is made of copper and installed on a granite pedestal, in the middle of which hangs a tablet with the years of life of the great sage. Near the monument grows a huge ancient pine, which perfectly fits into the overall composition, also there are well-groomed flower beds and neatly trimmed shrubs.

The monument was designed by architect H. Sigvard and built at the expense of local residents who wished to pay their respects to the teacher. Local authorities approved this idea, and in the autumn of 1899 the monument was inaugurated. The sculpture is one of the main decorations of Zurich, so every year it is restored by the best masters of the city.
