Zurich Town Hall

Limmatquai 55, 8001 Zurich, Switzerland

Description:

Built in the late 17th century, the town hall is considered the main architectural and cultural value of Zurich. It was built on the banks of the Limmat River in the Old Town. The uniqueness of this structure is that it is the only one in the whole country that has preserved its original appearance to this day.

The town hall building has three floors, and a luxurious, even majestic, view. It is made of stone in Baroque style. It is decorated with arcades and reliefs, as well as impressive massive doors resembling gates. The interior of the halls of the town hall is very beautiful. The ceilings are painted in golden red colors, and there are large forged and crystal chandeliers throughout the building. This design is more typical for castles or palaces than for an administrative building. All this makes the town hall not only a cultural landmark, but also the main symbol of Zurich.

After officials moved to another building in 1978, the town hall became accessible to visitors. Now it contains documents that testify to the history of the development of Zurich over many centuries.
