Mount Alechhorn

Switzerland, Berne Alps, canton of Valais.

Description:

Alechhorn is the mountain peak of Switzerland, the Bernese Alps, the canton of Valais. It is located in the Jungfrau-Alech region and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The height of the summit is 4.193 meters, it has the same name as the Great Alech Glacier lying near its foot.

It is the second highest peak in the Bernese Alps. In its northern part there is the Alechfirn glacier, in the south-western part - the Upper Alech glacier, and in the south - the Middle Alech glacier.

Due to its remote location associated with the surrounding ice fields, the mountain has become less known than the peaks of Eiger and Jungfrau, located 10 kilometers to the north.

Only after 50 years after the conquest of Jungfrau, the first ascent of Alechhorn was made. This happened in 1859, thanks to the English climber Francis Fox Taket and the guides who accompanied him. They rose from the south side of the Middle Alec glacier on June 18.
