Museum of Swiss National Architecture Ballenberg

Museumsstrasse 131, 3858 Hofstetten bei Brienz, Switzerland

About the company:

The Ballenberg Museum of Swiss National Architecture represents Switzerland in miniature. The entire exhibition is located under the open sky. Its vast territory is difficult to get around in one day. The area of the museum is sixty-six hectares.

Here you can see the Bernese Alps, and the town of Meyringen. In one place there are real houses and household premises. Each structure reflects its era since the fifteenth century. There are also modern buildings here.

The museum was established in 1978.

Today its collection includes more than a hundred residential buildings. But the buildings presented are not just buildings. Many of them recreate their time. Some houses have workshops. They represent the national craft of Switzerland. Here you can find a small hospital and a hairdresser. The most terrible room among all the buildings presented is the Death Room. Previously, mothers and babies were buried in this room.
