"Secular Five" or along the Leman Lake
Description:
On the shore of the largest lake of Switzerland Lehman (or as we call it Lake Geneva) are the most famous resort towns - Lausanne, Montreux, Mont-Pelren, Vevey, Nion, Morges, as well as one of the main cities of the country - Geneva.
Each town of the Swiss Riviera is interesting in its own way, each has its own zest and charm, many interesting museums, exhibitions, various cultural events. Montreux annually hosts a jazz festival in August, gathering the most famous musicians and admirers. In Veva and Geneva there are Russian Orthodox churches, in Lausanne not so long ago opened a modern unusual metro, which transports passengers ... without a driver, and the station announced with musical accompaniment in accordance with their name.
GENEVA – The city’s exceptionally beautiful location, breathtaking panorama of the Alpine mountains, and the fact that the city is located at the intersection of major European roads have naturally predetermined its role as one of Europe’s largest tourist centers.
Geneva is the capital of the United Nations and is rightly called the “City of Peace”, there are many international organizations, as well as the most famous and modern clinics, elegant and prestigious hotels, many attractions, museums, famous shops. The most famous and recognizable by advertising photos of the panorama of the city is the embankments with lush flower beds and the harbor with elegant sailboats, over which splashes of the 140-meter symbol of Geneva - the Jet Do fountain are silvered, on the right bank - luxury hotels and the Tomb of the Duke of Brunswick, on the left - the famous Flower Clock, a symbol of Geneva as the capital of watchmaking art, and a monument to the entry of Geneva into the Swiss Confederation.
Montre is one of the sunniest corners of Switzerland, protected from cold winds by mountains. This resort, located on the coast of Lake Geneva, is considered the pearl of the Swiss Riviera. Gifted by nature mild climate, exotic flowers and palm trees all year round please guests of this year. Montreux is a real secular resort: there are many casinos, restaurants, salons. Elegant mansions are immersed in the greenery of laurels, magnolias, palm trees, cypresses and almonds. Stairs descend directly to the shore, along which there is a beautiful boulevard. The embankment is decorated with sculptures that are directly related to jazz.
Although Montreux can’t complain about the lack of cultural events throughout the year, the annual jazz festival in August attracts a huge number of tourists who come here to listen to music performed by world celebrities.
Veve – a small resort town and one of the centers of the “Swiss Riviera”, located just a few kilometers from Lausanne, there are amazing landscapes full of harmony! Charlie Chaplin spent his last years here, finding the last shelter in the city cemetery next to his wife. Chaplin’s son still lives in the family house, to which a well-groomed piece of forest adjoins; American Henry James finished his novel Daisy Miller at the Three Crowns Hotel; Dostoevsky wrote several chapters of The Idiot here; the famous expressionist Oscar Kokoschka also fell in love with this “town on the shore of the lake at the foot of wooded hills, the lower terraces of which are occupied by vineyards, and higher slender pine prop up fast clouds”, after the artist’s death, his work was transferred to the Vevey museum.
Above Vevey is the town of Mont-Pelren, which offers beautiful views of Lake Geneva and the Alps. Here is one of the most famous Swiss luxury hotels Le Mirador Kempinski 5*, which can be reached by funicular.
Lausanne – the smallest of the “big five” major cities in Switzerland – is considered one of the most interesting and amazing cities in Europe. The city is easy to walk around, admiring the shady, flower-drenched embankments, medieval castles, the main cathedral of Lausanne - the most luxurious monument of Gothic architecture in Switzerland, to see the famous Olympic Museum. The parks of the city: the Hermitage, Mont Repo, the Elysee and the Olympic are very beautiful and, along with the embankments, are a favorite place for walks.
