Castle Saint-Mayre
le Châ teau Saint-Maire, Lausanne, 1002, Switzerland
Description:
Castle Saint-Maire is one of the most beautiful sights of Lausanne (Switzerland). Located in the historic quarter of the city near the Cathedral.
Construction of the building began at the end of the XIV century and continued for 35 years. The fortress received its name from the monastery named after St. Mary. In 1396, an order was issued by the Pope to move the monastery to another place, and a castle was built on its territory, which provided security for the bishops.
The palace is built in the form of a rectangle with a four-sided roof. The building is 25 meters high. The upper part of the castle is made of red brick, the lower part is made of light stone. Complete the picture of the tower with a cone-shaped roof. The entrance to the castle was provided by a suspension bridge, which was destroyed at the end of the XVIII century. Unfortunately, only a small part of the interior decoration of the premises of the XV-XIV centuries has survived to this day.
