St. Anthony's Church
Via Borghetto 1, 6900 Lugano, Switherland
Description:
The Church of St. Anthony the Great, also known as the Royal Chapel, is located near the central square of Ticino in Switzerland. This is a small cozy temple, built by order of Ferdinand VI in the Baroque style.
The construction of the temple was completed in 1354 on the site of the square of the same name. In the second half of the 17th century, it was restored and a high bell tower was completed. The interior of the church was decorated with pilasters, colored marble and niches made in the style of neoclassicism.
The wooden crucifix of the 16th century, located in the altar of the chapel of the Holy Crucifixion and the wooden Gothic statue of the Virgin of the 15th century, located in the altar of the chapel of the Madonna of Grace are the main shrines of the church. The chapel was made in the form of a one-story majestic rotunda, topped by a small tower, from which perpendicular columned porticoes diverge. To get there, you have to climb 404 steps.
