Lugano

Lugano Promenade

Riva Giocondo Albertolli, 6900 Lugano, Switzerland

Description:

Lugano is the largest city in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. However, it is not an administrative center. The city is located on the shores of the lake of the same name, surrounded by the mountains of Monte Bre, 923 meters high, and Monte San Salvador, whose height is 912 meters. It is because of them that Lugano has a rather mild climate.

Despite the fact that there are quite a few interesting attractions in the city, the most outstanding of them is the embankment of the lake. It offers the most beautiful view of the city itself and the surrounding nature. It is here that life hits the key around the clock. The length of the embankment is approximately two kilometers. Here are the most beautiful parks of Chiani and Belvedere, visiting which you can see the flowering of magnolias. In June, rhododendron and azalea bloom in them. There are also monuments to Abraham Lincoln and Wilhelm Tell, the national hero of Switzerland, who for many years fought for the independence of the country. The monument to Wilhelm Tell was created in 1852 by the Tessinian sculptor Vincenzo Vella.

The embankment overlooks the church of Santa Maria del Angioli, created in the XVI century. Also located here is the oldest hotel Lugano - Splendide Royal and Villa Malpensata, which houses the Museum of Modern Art.
