Lucerne fountains
Description:
In the center of the Swiss plateau is the amazing city of Lucerne. It is located on the shore of the lake and is the center of the district of the same name. Founded in the VIII century, the city still retains the magic of a medieval trading village. Only here you will find whole streets and squares with houses, the facades of which are decorated from bottom to top with stucco and painting. Narrow streets paved with paving stones, low 3 and 4-storey houses and old shops evoke the spirit of the Middle Ages.
Lucerne is called the city of squares and fountains. Probably, there are no more cities in the world with so many different squares and magnificent monuments. The fountains deserve special attention, they immortalize almost the entire history of the city. Many myths and legends are reflected in them. For example, in the square of Capelplatz, near the oldest church of Lucerne (the Church of St. Peter) is a fountain installed in honor of the annual spring carnival.
There are many modern fountains even in the Old Town. One of them is a mask from the mouth of which a stream of water escapes. It was created in honor of a rather popular carnival decoration, which was often used in the Middle Ages.
