Description:
Swiss Riviera - we will visit Montreux, Vevey, pass through the vineyards of Lavo, where we will stop at observation decks to admire the unforgettable views of the Riviera and take pictures.
If you want to drive along the picturesque wine roads, get acquainted with the history and traditions of the Lavo region, we will take a trip to the famous Lavo vineyards, located on lands that in the 12th century monks cleared of vegetation and set up terraces descending directly to the lake. For its unique landscape, the Lavaux vineyards were inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007 as a “cultural monument”.
We will climb to the observation deck, from which we will admire the magnificent views that open from the “balcony” of Lake Geneva, and make beautiful photos for memory. For wine connoisseurs, I suggest a visit to Vinorama, where we are waiting for wine tasting of local producers, here all producers of this region bring their wines for sale. Here you can taste and buy your favorite wines. Famous Swiss wines are tasted on the territory of numerous family wineries.
For lunch we can stay in one of the restaurants with excellent local cuisine and with a panoramic view of Lake Geneva. Many of the restaurants in the region have Michelin stars.
Next, we will visit the beautiful city of Montreux, it is considered the capital of the Swiss Riviera. This is the city of Freddie Mercury and Vladimir Nabokov. It is the city of the Jazz Festival since 1967. The Place du Marché has a statue of the eminent singer, and the Casino Barrier houses the Freddie Mercury and Queen Museum.
Vladimir Nabokov arrived in Montreux in 1961. He lived at the Montreux Palace with his wife Vera from 1960 until his death in 1977.
In the 19th and 20th centuries, Montreux was one of the centers of Russian culture and emigration in Switzerland. Montreux was visited by Russian geniuses with world fame: Leo Tolstoy, P. I. Tchaikovsky, Alexander Scriabin, whose father served as a Russian consul. Here lived one of the great composers of the XX century Igor Stravinsky, after whom the concert hall in Montreux Auditorium Stravinsky is named, it annually hosts the Jazz Festival in Montreux.
Further, the road along the lake will lead us to Veva - one of the favorite resorts of the Russian aristocracy.
We will walk along its beautiful embankment, where Karamzin and Herzen, Hugo and Tchaikovsky, Hemingway and Rousseau loved to walk, Gogol began to write the second volume of Dead Souls here, and Dostoevsky wrote the last chapters of the novel Idiot.
In Vevey is the headquarters of the Swiss company Nestlé. It was founded in 1866 by Swiss pharmacist Henri Nestlé, who created a product for artificial feeding of infants “Milk flour”.
We will see an 8-meter fork installed in the lake opposite the Nestlé Nutrition Museum, known as the Alimentarium.
On the waterfront there is a monument to the great comedian of silent cinema Charlie Chaplin, who lived in Veva for the last 30 years and was buried here. In Vevey is one of the oldest Russian churches in Switzerland, the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara. The church was built at the expense of Count P. P.
