Montreux

Monument to Nabokov

Montreux, Switzerland

Description:

In the city of Montreux, on a beautiful well-groomed lawn near the famous hotel "Montreux Palace" is a monument to the great playwright Vladimir Nabokov. It was here that he lived with his wife from 1960 to 1977. Their cozy room was located on the sixth floor. On these streets, they walked, went to the nearest cafeterias to drink a cup of tea or coffee. The great writer was buried together with his wife in the town of Clarence Nabokov, located near Montreux.

The monument was erected on April 23, 1999. The sculpture was made by the famous sculptor Philip Rukavishnikov. This was his thesis, which he did under the guidance of his father. The creation of the monument was initiated by the owners of Montreux Palace.

Vladimir Nabokov is introduced to us already in old age, sitting on a chair. He is very focused, his right hand lies on his knee, and his left hand rests on the back of the chair. The playwright thoughtfully looks down through glasses, probably just thinking about one of his works.
