Road and walking tour of Geneva
Description:
In order to see all the sights of Geneva, a walking tour of the old city is not enough. I offer you a combined car and walking tour covering the history, present days and future of this wonderful city.
We can start the tour from the airport or from the hotel where you live. The first part of the tour – a car tour – will take place in the new Geneva, where we will visit the international organizations located there. Geneva hosts missions of various powers, the International Red Cross, the UN headquarters and the League of Nations. The concentration of all these serious international organizations here is due to the fact that Geneva has long earned the international prestige and reputation of a country with a fair and diplomatic approach to conflict resolution and strict adherence to the letter of the law.
By car, we will pass the World Health Organization, which deals with the health of the entire world population, fight epidemics, develop medicines, vaccines and diagnostic tools. We will visit the organization of the International Red Cross, where, if desired, we will make a stop to visit the Garden of Memory of the Missionaries who died while carrying out their noble deeds, as well as the museum, in the courtyard of which a memorial stone was laid by the spouses of the Presidents of the USSR and the United States R. Gorbachev and N. Reagan.
From the car window we will see the UNAIDS organization that deals with the world problems of HIV and AIDS, the World Council of Churches, educational institutions of all types of accreditation.
We will reach the most beautiful place in the central part of the city, which bears the proud name of the Square of Nations, and see the international organizations focused on it: UNHC, the World Intellectual Property Organization and the International Telecommunication Union. We will see the most beautiful building, which was created by architects with a worldwide reputation - the Palace of Nations. If desired, we can make a stop near it and take an hour and a half tour of its interior, which includes three dozen conference rooms and more than 2.5 thousand offices.
After visiting the Palais des Nations, we are left to admire the Intercontinental Hotel, where famous people stay, and the building of the International Labour Organization, which develops international conventions for the settlement of disputes between workers, employers and trade union organizations.
In addition to the above buildings and organizations during the tour, we will be happy to look from the car window at the historical monuments located in this area of Geneva, well-groomed city parks and ancient mansions.
At the end of the car part of our tour, we will proceed to a walk through the old town. You will immediately feel the sharp contrast of the old streets with modern Geneva. In the old town we will visit the square Neve and Boer de Four, where all the main cultural buildings of the city are concentrated - museums, theaters, conservatory. Walk through the Botanical Garden and Bastion Park, where rare specimens of plants are grown, climb to the traditional place of festivities of lovers - Machine Bridge - overlooking the island of Rousseau, visit the Lutheran Church, St. Peter's Cathedral, St. Germain Church, the Palace of Justice and the City Hall, which are considered cult buildings. These buildings, in addition to the fact that they are magnificent in their architectural design, are remarkable for the fact that at different times had a certain influence on the course of history, the formation of religion and the changing political situation, both in Geneva itself and throughout Switzerland.
