Geneva

Excursion to Geneva and the Ivoar Fortress Museum

Description:

Geneva is the largest city on the coast of Lake Geneva, called the Capital of the World, the most popular cultural and business center of Switzerland and one of the best resorts at the foot of the Alpine mountains. A city with an amazing history, also called Protestant Rome, “knows how to trade air”, as modern Genevans say about themselves.

Ivoar is a cozy and fabulously beautiful village - an ancient fortress of the Dukes of Savoy, located on the Cape of Lake Geneva, combining the beauty of nature, interesting history and the charms of French cuisine. A walking tour of Geneva includes: inspection of the embankment of Lake Geneva, the Mausoleum of the Duke of Braunschweg, who bequeathed all his fortune to Geneva, the Mont Blanc Bridge, which divides the city into 2 parts, the mouth of the Rhone River, from where Geneva originates. The famous Flower Clock, in the English Garden, is a monument to the Swiss watch industry, and the Geneva Fountain, 140 m high. Walk through the Old Town: Bourg de Four Square, St. Peter's Cathedral, Calvin Auditorium, Holy Cross Cathedral (Orthodox Church) and Tavel House Museum. United Nations, WTO, Red Cross and Crescent Offices. Enjoying the beauty of Lake Geneva, skirting its coast, the road will lead us to the ancient fortress town built by the Duke of Savoy in the distant 14th century, and you will get into a fairy tale. Ivory Coast is a cozy medieval village, listed in the register of the most beautiful villages in France, 7 centuries standing exactly in the middle of Lake Geneva, on a protruding promontory. Back in Roman times, the village was called Akuaria, meaning “the place where there is water”. The name was transformed over the centuries into “Ivory Coast”. In the XV century, the village was turned into a guard fortress by the Duke of Savoy Amedei V the Great, who attached great importance to the fortress ports on the Leman coast. The town has fully preserved its medieval style and appearance, which it acquired in 1306. You are waiting for a walk through the ducal garden "5 sensations", until the revolution and the first annexation of Savoy there was a garden of the castle, and from the XIX century the owners made it the property of local residents, more precisely legitimized the established, in the revolutionary period, the tradition of using vegetables from the garden of the seigneur, the current garden is arranged in the spirit of medieval closed gardens surrounded by a wall, with front gardens and beds on which monks grew vegetables and medicinal plants. At first they had only a practical purpose, over time they became decorative. The plant labyrinth is designed so that each part of the garden is dedicated to one of the senses: taste, touch (you can touch the leaves different to the touch), smell (there are different aroma plants), vision (with bright colors) and hearing (the chirps of birds in the enclosure in the middle of the garden)
