Sightseeing tour of Neuchâtel
Description:
The unique city of Neuchatel, located on the shore of the lake of the same name, comfortably scattered its streets along the steep slopes of the Jura. The famous Alexander Dumas, having visited here, called in his travel notes Neuchâtel a fabulous city, "as if carved from a piece of butter." You will agree with the famous writer at first glance at this city. Neuchâtel has many faces - a metropolitan, impressive city, decorated with magnificent buildings of various architectural eras - this can envy any city of world magnitude. But at the same time, Neuchâtel breathes peace, the silence of a provincial town – a lake, mountain slopes covered with vineyards, entering the city streets and courtyards.
In the name of the city we hear the phrase “New Castle”. Who, when and for what reason first built this castle is hidden in the darkness of centuries, it is known only that its first existence is documented in 1011. For 1001 years, the city was built around the castle, descending from the hill to the lake - the owners, religions, historical epochs changed, the character, ability to work and thoroughness of the local residents did not change. The result of their thousand-year work we will see, strolling through the city streets and embankments.
Optionally: Clock museums in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Moving to La Chaux-de-Fonds is the largest city in the upper part of the canton of Neuchâtel or simply "Upper", the main center for the production of watches and watch movements. The International Clock Museum is one of the most interesting in the country. Here are a variety of mechanisms that mankind has designed to monitor time: from sun and hourglasses, to medieval tower chimes and pocket bragets, from chronometers of the XVIII – XIX centuries to their atomic and electronic counterparts.
