Square Novet

Place de Neuve 1, 1204 Geneve, Switzerland

Description:

One of the main attractions of Geneva is the Place Nouve, also known as the New Square. In its center is a statue of the national hero, the creator of the first map of Switzerland - General Henri Dufour. In the southern part of the square is the building of the Conservatory, erected in the early XIX century. It is still one of the most popular musical institutions in Europe.

Not far from the Conservatory is the Rath Museum, an elegant building which was rebuilt with the money of the Rath sisters. The activity of this institution is aimed at holding exhibitions on the art of ancient times and modern art. Also on New Square is the Opera House, which was restored after the famous fire that broke out during the production of the opera Valkyrie.

Particularly popular are the local high gates leading to the beautiful Bastion Park. It is a former botanical park where 50 species of trees still grow. Also here is the famous Einar Palace, where the University of Geneva is located. It should be noted that in the square of Nouveau there are very beautiful fountains, which are not equal in Europe.
