The Great Colonnade Street

The Great Colonnade is the central street of Palmyra, the length of which is one thousand hundred meters.

The main thoroughfares of Roman cities were perfectly straight. However, the "Great Colonnade" is an exception, as it curves slightly twice in its length. This happened because the colonnade repeats the direction of the caravan road.

The columns of the street reach ten meters. On both sides of the street were covered porticoes, which are made of golden limestone and pink Aswan granite.
