Bratislava

Millennial City

Description:

Bratislava Castle, Presidential Palace and corners of the Old Town on a sightseeing tour

This walking tour will introduce you to the history of Bratislava and its most important sights. You will see the city from the height of the magnificent Bratislava Castle, learn about the magnificent balls that were once held in the walls of the Presidential Palace, plunge into the world of urban legends and ancient monastic orders in the heart of the Old City.

What awaits you

The Grandeur of the Bratislava Castle

We will visit the snow-white castle, which is located on one of the spurs of the Small Carpathians and can be seen from anywhere in the city. For many years Bratislava Castle served as a coronation site for Austrian and Hungarian kings, including the legendary Maria Theresa of the Habsburg family. We will explore the territory of the castle and the ruins of the basilica of the IX century, visit the monument of St. Alzbette and get acquainted with its tragic history. I will tell you about the features of the architecture of the Bratislava Castle, in which classical Baroque, Sigismund Gothic, knightly Eada and Renaissance are mixed. And from the palace square you will have a wonderful view of the whole of Bratislava, which stretches below, as in the palm of your hand!

Walk through the Old Town

The streets of the Old Town will greet you with beautiful palaces, ancient temples, local legends and amazing stories. You will see the palace of Archbishop Joseph Botani with mysterious tapestries and the palace of the brewer Speh with a magnificent art gallery. Also along the way we will consider the church of the ancient Jesuit order, the church of Capuchin monks, as if descended from the pages of Schiller’s novels, and, of course, the legendary Church of St. Martin, which for several centuries was the center of Catholicism in most of Europe.

The Presidential Palace: From Balls to Pioneers

You will discover the difficult history of the Bratislava Presidential Palace, which went from the pompous residence of Count Grasalkovich to the Pioneer House, located here during the communist regime. The palace will certainly surprise you not only with its interesting fate, but also with its solemn facade and unusual Rococo architecture.

  • The tour is an extended version of the walk of Bratislava - the dark gem of the Danube, which added the Bratislava Castle and the Presidential Palace.
