Memorial to Holocaust Victims
Rybne namestie, Bratislava, Slovakia
Description:
Every year Slovakia celebrates a memorable day – 9 September. On this mournful day, the entire country commemorates the victims of the Holocaust and racial violence. September 9 is considered one of the saddest dates in the life of the country, because on this day in 1941, the pro-fascist government adopted a set of laws on the complete disenfranchisement of Jews.
In memory of this day in Bratislava, on the square near the flyover that separates the Old Town from the Castle Hill, two monuments were erected related to the genocide of Slovak Jews during the war. On the square is a monument to the victims of the Holocaust, and next to it is a granite slab with the image of the Bratislava synagogue.
This monument was created by the sculptor Milan Lukacs and the architect Petr Zhalman, it consists of a table of memoirs with the names of the Bratislava victims of the Holocaust. At the top of the monument to the victims of the Holocaust, the Star of David is placed as a symbol of the Jewish people and religion, and at the bottom there is an inscription with only one word - "Remember!".
