Description:

The Presidential Palace, located in the Slovak capital Bratislava, is considered one of the most famous architectural sights of the city. It was built in 1765 in the Renaissance style of white and gray brick by order of Anton Grassalkovich, adviser to Empress Maria Theresa. The decoration of the building is sculptural bas-reliefs on the facade, arched windows and figure porticoes. The dome of the central part of the building is crowned by a spire. During the time of Grassalkovich, whose name is still called this building, magnificent festivities were held in the palace, in which the famous composer Joseph Haydn participated, here the wedding of the daughter of Empress Maria Theresa took place.

After the declaration of the Slovak Republic in 1919, the palace served as a space for various state organizations: it was the Palace of Pioneers, the residence of Josip Broz Tito. Since 1996, the former Grassalkovich Palace has become the Presidential Palace – the residence of the President of Slovakia. The park at the palace is a great place for walking, you can see the fountain in the shape of the globe, which symbolizes peace in the world, and the guards of honor in traditional Slovak military uniforms.
