Description:
The Old Town Hall in Bratislava is the oldest town hall in Slovakia. This is one of the oldest buildings in the city.
The Town Hall is located between the Main Square and Primate Square. It was built in the Gothic style. The tower of the town hall dates from the XIII century, and the building of the annex was completed by the XV century. The town hall suffered during an earthquake in 1599, as well as during a fire of the XVIII century. After that, elements of Renaissance and Baroque styles appeared in it. In 1912, a wing was added to the tower of the Old Town Hall, combining elements of neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance. In the XV-XIX centuries, the town hall was used as a place for the city council, after which the archive, mint and prison were located in this building at different times. During the offensive of Napoleon's army in 1809, a cannonball hit the town hall, which is stored in the building until now.
Currently, there is a museum in the Old Town Hall.
