Castle - Cherveny Stone
Slovak National Museum-Museum Red Stone Castle, Red Stone Castle, 900 89 Č astá, Slovakia
Description:
20 minutes walk - and now you are standing on a hill in front of a huge building, surrounded by a perimeter, like guards, towers-bastions. Construction of the castle began at the beginning of the XII century. Until the seventeenth century, it performed its defensive functions, which eventually ceased to be needed. In other words, in the XVII century the fortress lost its strategic importance, but its owners finally had the opportunity to deal with the interior of the castle. They even invited Italian artists.
Under the castle are two impressive basements. These rooms were usually designed to store products. However, these cellars were never used for their direct purpose - they kept the red stone from which the castle was made. That explains its name.
Depending on the month, the following events can be visited in the castle: “Craft Fairs”, “Festival of Historical Fencing”, “Knight’s Games”.
In spring and summer, an exhibition of birds of prey takes place in the castle. Also interesting is the collection of furniture and weapons.
