Description:

The Franciscan Church is one of the oldest churches in Košice. The first mention of it belongs to the period before the XIV century. However, after a great fire in 1333, almost everything was destroyed. The reliefs above the entrance, the altar of St. Nicholas and the stone benches around it are all that remains of the original church. The rest was restored in a later period. Another fire occurred in the church in 1556, after which it became a military armory, and then it was made an episcopal cathedral.

In the crypt under the main altar was buried Benedict Kisdy, Bishop of Eger, who is the founder of the very first university in Kosice.

The facade of the shrine is decorated with statues and various elements of baroque decor, and its bell tower is crowned by a tent dome. Like the facade, the church interior is also made in the Baroque style. Here is a statue of the patron saint of the seminary - St. Carlo Borromeo.
