Description:
The Premonstrant Church is the most valuable architectural building of Košice in the Baroque style. In the Middle Ages, on this place, where the church is now, there was a royal mansion.
During the Recatolization period, a Jesuit chapel was erected here. It was founded by Captain Andrew Doczi. In 1619, from 6 to 7 September, the Jesuits were tortured to death at the hands of the soldiers of George I. The murder of the Jesuits shocked the whole city. The wife of George II Rakoczi bought plots of land for the construction of a Jesuit church here, the prototype of which was the famous Roman Jesuit church Il-Jezu.
In 1681, the construction of the church was completed, and in 1811 it was given to the premonstrators. Today the church is dedicated to the Holy Trinity.
The architecture of the building is dominated by strict forms with minimal decor. The structure is crowned by two towers.
