Description:
Budatina Castle, located in the Slovak city of Žilina, at the confluence of the Vaga and Kisutsa rivers, has a long history. The first building in the Gothic style, which served as a guard fortress, appeared on this place in the XIII century. In the XVI century, the castle acquired Renaissance features, which were preserved in the interior on the first floor, in particular, in the form of a fireplace.
In the XVIII century, Budatinsky Castle lost the function of the fortress and was rebuilt again by the new owners, the Sakovtsov family, already in the Baroque style. In 1849, during a fire, the castle building was badly damaged. The owners carried out restoration work, the ruins of the castle in the Baroque style were replaced by buildings in the classical style.
Now the castle is a multi-level building made of stone, painted in white. On the second floor you can see arched windows and an attached turret with a spire. The second level is a building with a round tower in the center, resembling the tower of the fortress. Since 1945, Budatinsky Castle belongs to the Ministry of Culture of Slovakia, which in 2007 organized the Povazhsky Museum here.
