Description:

The Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity is a Catholic church of the city of Zilina and the cathedral of the diocese of Zilina. It was built in 1400 and consecrated in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, but after several burns and reconstructions, in 1542, the Bishop of Nitra consecrated the building in the name of the Most Holy Trinity.

At the beginning of the XVI century, Burian Svetlovsky allocated funds for the construction of a tower near the temple, which began to be used as a citadel. At first it was called the “New Tower”, but today it was named in honor of its creator – “Burian Tower”. After 72 years, a chapel in the name of St. John of Nepomuk was added to the temple, and in 1888, after another restoration, the building was supplemented by two new towers, which have survived to this day.

During the First World War, the three bells of the temple were withdrawn for the manufacture of military equipment, but in 1924, the local authorities returned the double-sized bell, and the temple received six new bells. In 1936, the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity acquired an organ, and in 1941 the facade of the church was decorated with a statue of St. Anna.
