Lietava Castle

013 11 Lietavska Svinna-Babkov, Slovakia

Description:

Letava Castle is located on a mountainous hill near the cities of Letava and Letavska Svinna in Slovakia. It was built in 1241 and originally served as a defensive fortress. Previously, Letava Castle was considered the third largest castle in all of Slovakia, but since 1760 it was abandoned by the owners, which led to its self-destruction.

The structure was made of massive light stone with many wide windows and friendly arches, but now on the site of Letava Castle there are lonely ruins, on the walls of which ancient inscriptions are still carved. The courtyard remains open, and the old arches are more and more destroyed every year, although they are toppled with wooden beams. Surrounding the ruins of the castle is an ancient forest and wide meadows, which attract the attention of artists and connoisseurs of natural perfection.
