Slovenia

Day of Reunification of Primorye with the Fatherland

Description:

The holiday is dedicated primarily to those who participated in the defense of Primorye.
Within the framework of the system of Paris Peace Treaties, which entered into force on September 15, 1947, an agreement was signed between Yugoslavia and Italy, according to which Italy ceded to Yugoslavia a significant part of the previously captured Yugoslav lands: most of the potland, a section of the Trzhak region, Istria - south of the Mirna River to the sailing islands.

Slovenia lost these lands after the First World War, and on this day celebrates their reunification with the fatherland.

By the beginning of World War I, Slovenian Primorye had more than 300,000 inhabitants. During the First World War, these lands were occupied by Italy and included in its composition, despite fierce battles and defeats on neighboring fronts.

The holiday of reunification of Primorye with the fatherland is dedicated primarily to those who participated in the defense of Primorye on both sides of the Italian border, including partisans who for a long time after the occupation operated in this territory.

On this day, solemn rallies and concerts dedicated to the event are held. At the state level, the holiday has been celebrated since 2005, but is not a non-working day.
