Day of Uprising against Occupation in Slovenia

Description:

(sometimes called Liberation Front Day)

On this day in 1941, the Liberation Front of the Slovenian People was established in Ljubljana.

In fact, the Liberation Front was established the day before, on April 26, 1941, in the home of the writer Josip Vidmar, where representatives of some political parties and cultural figures met. These were Boris Kidrich, Boris Ziecherl, Ales Bebler (from the KP), Josip Rus (from the Sokolovs), Tony Faifar (from the Christian socialists), Ferdo Kozak, Franz Sturm and Josip Vidmar (Slovene cultural figures). It was originally called the Anti-Imperialist Front.

The liberation war of the Slovenian people, which began in July 1941, was a common part of the People’s Liberation War in Yugoslavia in 1941-45. Slovenia was liberated by the Yugoslav People’s Liberation Army on May 15, 1945. After the liberation of the country and the proclamation of the Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia (FPRY) on November 29, 1945, Slovenia became one of the 6 People’s Republics in its composition.

The holiday is an annual occasion to remember the soldiers of the resistance movement in World War II.
