Bled, Vintgar Gorge and Lake Bohinj
Description:
Dear guests, on this day you will find an exciting journey to delightful places. The fairy tale of Lake Bled and Bohinj will remain in your memory forever.
The Bled Great Bohinj Glacier, which occupied the territory up to the basin of Radovliška kettle, left two beautiful natural sights in memory of itself. The first is Lake Bled, in the middle of which is an island. The second is the Vintgar gorge, along which an interesting tourist trail passes. Since the Swiss Arnold Rickley in 1854 opened a sanatorium of climatic and water treatment in the town of Bled on the shore of the lake, Bled has become a leading Slovenian resort. On the only (lake) island stands the Church of the Ascension of the Virgin Mary, and on a rock near the shore rises one of the most ancient castles in the history of Slovenia.
About ten thousand years, the Radovna River on its way to the Sava Dolinka River washed the rocks, forming the Vintgar Gorge, a natural attraction 1.6 km long. In some places the depth of the gorge reaches 150 m. At the exit from the gorge Vintgar formed waterfall Noise, height of 13 m.
Pokljuka is a mountain plateau in northwestern Slovenia. It is located in Triglav National Park in the Julian Alps at an altitude of 1300 m. A natural feature of this area are high-mountain swamps, where rare species of plants grow.
For a long time Bohin was inhabited hidden among the mountains of Bohinj. Rich deposits of iron ore brought new inhabitants to these unsociable lands. After the last blast furnace in Bohin ceased to operate in the XIX century, many miners and blacksmiths left, and the rest were reoriented to modest agriculture and grazing cattle in mountain pastures. The highest mountains in Slovenia are located on the territory where two mountain ranges meet - the Alps and the Dinaric Highlands. These mountains are punished by the Julian Alps. They are named after the ancient city of Forum Iulii (now the city of Cividali del Frulia in Italy), and the city, in turn, was named after the Roman emperor Julius Caesar. Triglav National Park. The incredible beauty of the place was first protected in 1924. The first national park was organized in the Triglav Lakes Valley. In 1961 it was re-proclaimed as Triglav National Park, and in 1981 it was expanded to include almost the entire Slovenian part of the Julian Alps. The area occupied by the park is about 85 thousand hectares, which makes Triglav National Park one of the largest in Europe.
