Cyril and Methodius Square
Description:
Cyril and Methodius Square is a favorite place for tourists who came to Ljubljana to rest and walk. There are numerous cafes on the square, where guests of the city can taste local dishes, as well as interesting souvenir shops. The square received its name in honor of the founders of Slavic writing and preachers of Christianity - brothers Cyril and Methodius, it is located in the heart of the main city of Slovenia. Since public transport is poorly developed, it is easiest to get to the square by taxi from anywhere in the city.
The main attraction of this place, of course, is the Catholic Cathedral of St. Nicholas, built here in the seventeenth century. The design of the cathedral is made in the popular Baroque style at that time, the legendary painter from Italy Andrea del Pozzo took part in the creation of the painting. In the 20th century, a reconstruction was carried out here, after which a font for baptism and a bishop’s pulpit appeared in the cathedral.
Another interesting fact associated with this place is that before, namely in the 13th century, the Romanesque church stood on the site of this cathedral, but after experiencing several fires one after another, it gave way to a new building.
