Court Tower

Partizanska cesta 6, 2000 Maribor, Slovenija

Description:

The court tower in Maribor has survived to our time since the Middle Ages. It also performed a defensive function, protecting the city from the invasion of the Turks. Located on the banks of the river Drava, visible from afar. It dates back to the early 14th century. At first there was a court, and in 1540 the building was rebuilt into a fortress. The name was given due to the court hearings that were held there. It was here that the verdicts of the accused were read and the witches were dealt with. In 1830 it was completely rebuilt, the tower came to us in this form. The tower offers a picturesque view of the river with white swans. Today there is an exhibition hall inside. You can get to Maribor by plane (there is an international airport), by train from major cities of the country, by intercity bus, by rented car.
