State Museum of People's Liberation in Maribor

Hero Tomtsik Street 5,2000 Maribor, Slovenia

About the company:

The State Museum of People’s Liberation in Maribor is dedicated to the history of the fascist occupation and the anti-fascist movement in northeastern Slovenia during World War II. It is located in the center of Maribor in a building built in the 1890s by the famous Maribor businessman Sherbaum in the neo-Renaissance style.

During the First World War, the building housed the Supreme Command of Austria-Hungary. Then it was both a school and a local administration, and there were urban social and political movements. Since 1954, the mansion has become a museum.

Museum exhibits occupy 120 meters of exhibition space. These are authentic documents left behind by the Nazis and local guerrillas, including many disturbing photographs of those years. Visiting the 6 halls of the museum, you will learn about the policy pursued by the occupiers against the Slovenes, about the guerrilla resistance and its heroes.

There are always a lot of young people in the museum, organized excursions are held, traveling exhibitions dedicated to the history of the region and famous countrymen regularly work.
