St. George's Church
Ulica IX. Korpusa 40, 6330 Piran, Slovenia
Description:
The Church of St. George is rightly considered one of the most unique attractions on the Adriatic Sea. It is located in the center of Piran on a high hill. The architecture of the temple has Italian features, as in the Middle Ages the city was part of Venice. It dates back to the 12th century. It has been restored several times. In 1637 it became what we see today. The author of the project was Giacomo di Nodari, an Italian architect. The 99-meter bell tower is equipped with an observation deck from which you can see the whole city in the palm of your hand and enjoy the bay. The bell tower can be seen from anywhere in Pirana. Inside the temple there are unique sculptures and a large organ. Marble altars decorate the hall. The vaults intersect as a star. Named in honor of George the Victorious, the patron of the city.
You can get to the temple by city bus to the Piran stop, by rented bicycle or on foot.
