Stichna Monastery

Stič na 17, 1295 Ivanč na Gorica, Slovenia

Description:

Sticna Monastery is one of the oldest in Slovenia. It dates back to 1132. Construction began in the valley with settlements, considering this place sacred. The author of the project was a French architect living in the area. The monastery had the form of a Romanesque basilica consisting of three parts and several asps. Later, other buildings and a fortress wall appeared. Fashionable baroque influenced the monastery itself. Through the efforts of Candido Zulliani in 1746, the building was rebuilt, giving it the appearance of late Baroque. There is a museum on the territory where you can learn about the history of Christianity in Slovenia. Not all places are available to visit. Tourists can buy teas from herbs collected by monks. Near the monastery there is a monument to soldiers who died during the Second World War.

You can get there by car on the highway Ljubljana – Novo-place, tourist transfer.
