Description:

Try to decipher ancient petroglyphs

If you are fond of history, a trip to Karelia will allow you to be transported to the distant past, as much as several millennia ago.

It was then that these territories were inhabited by ancient Baltic-Finnish tribes, who left a legacy to the next generations of mysterious petroglyphs – rock paintings of animals, people and mysterious symbols carved on coastal rocks in the White Sea region and on the eastern shore of Lake Onega. To date, this is the largest accumulation of rock paintings in Europe, numbering more than 3000 pieces and dating from the IV-V millennia BC.

It is noteworthy that unlike most other known rock paintings, Karelian petroglyphs were carved at a depth of 2-3 mm not on the vertical, but on the horizontal surface of the rocks. Among these ancient drawings there are many mysterious images that harbor some mystical meaning or, perhaps, a message hidden in symbols to humanity. So you have every chance to try to decipher this ancient mystery.

And today we will try to reveal the secrets of petroglyphs.
