The first Doctor’s Day celebration took place on March 30, 1933.
The first Doctors' Day celebration took place on March 30, 1943 in Barow Country, Georgia. The idea of the celebration belongs to Eodora Elmond, the wife of Dr. Charles Elmond.

It was proposed to celebrate this day in commemoration of the anniversary of the first use of anesthesia by Dr. Crawford Long in 1842.
