Robert E. Lee's Birthday
Description:
January 19, 1807 - General Robert E. Lee's birthday.
This date is celebrated in Alabama and Mississippi on the 3rd Monday of January.
Robert Edward Lee was the most famous American commander, commander of the Southern Confederate army in the Civil War of 1861–65.
Thanks to the talent of the general, the South, which did not have an industrial base and, therefore, the ability to fully support the army, managed to inflict a series of sensitive defeats on the northerners.
Once, as a teacher of the military academy at West Point, the general taught military science to his future opponents - Grant, Sherman, and other northern military commanders. After the North's victory, they treated Lee with intense reverence.
In 2003, the film Gods & Generals was released in a video rental, in which the image of Robert Lee is colorfully and truthfully shown.
The film tells the story of a time when the American nation was divided, from 1861 to 1863, culminating in the Battle of Chancellorsville. The film illuminates the lives of heroes on both sides of the war: Confederate General Robert E. Lee (Robert Duval), a prominent 25-year veteran of the United States Army, and a Virginia native forced to choose between loyalty to his country and family; and Thomas Stonewall Jackson (Stephen Lang), a genuinely religious man whose faith and bravery made him an outstanding warrior and confidant of General Lee.
