Sweets Day
Description:
This tradition began in Cleveland in 1922, when Herbert Birch Kingston, a philanthropist and confectionery worker, decided to help disadvantaged orphans and the poor.
With the help of friends, they organized a small handout of gifts to somehow support the starving, those the government had long forgotten.
During the Open Sweet Day film star Anna Pennington
She gave 2,000,200 Cleveland boy newspaper handouts sweet gifts in gratitude for their work.
Another major movie star, Theda Bara, gave 10,000 boxes of candy to patients at Cleveland Hospital and everyone who came to see her film at the local theater.
Sweets Day is mainly celebrated in the Great Lakes region and in the northeast of the country.
Today, this holiday serves as another occasion (besides Lovers’ Day) for the expression of romantic feelings and friendships. On this day it is customary to give chocolate or roses, as well as everything that is the personification of tasty, because love is sweet as chocolate!
