National Park and Reserve of Wrangel and St. Elijah
Chitina, Alaska 99566, United States of America
Description:
Wrangel St. Elias National Park (Wrangel and St. Elias), located in the southeast of Alaska, is included in the list of UNESCO cultural heritage sites and is a unique natural monument. It is the largest national park in the United States.
The main value of the park is the majestic millennial glaciers and ice fields, which occupy almost one-fourth of the area of the entire park and freeze to a depth of more than 900 m. In summer, due to the fact that glaciers begin to melt, the flow of water into the rivers is ensured. The area of the largest glacier Nabesna is about 819 square kilometers.
Another amazing sight is the Wrangel Mountains. This is a high-altitude volcanic massif, the length of which is almost 150 km, consisting of an active volcano Wrangel and two extinct volcanoes. It is here that Mount St. Elijah is more than 5 thousand meters high - the second peak after Mount McKinley.
As for recreation, the park of Wrangel and St. Elijah is just perfect for walking and hiking, as well as small flights by air taxi. With an Alaska state license and subject to strict compliance with state law, fishing and hunting are permitted in the park. If you prefer hunting, then professional hunter-guides will help you.
