Basque Museum and Cultural Centre
611 W Grove St, Boise, ID, USA
About the company:
The small town of Boise is home to one of the largest Basque diasporas in the United States. The museum and cultural center open here give an opportunity to look into the history of the appearance of this people in America and get acquainted with its national traditions.
The museum was established in 1985 on the basis of an old house owned by one of the first settlers Kir Jacobs Ubiruaga. The house dates back to 1864, and today it is as important a historical exhibit as anything that is kept within its walls.
The museum’s collection includes a library, a collection of records, cassettes and handwritten materials, as well as numerous artifacts and photographs. The birth and development of the exhibition was made possible by the activity of the Basque population of the city. People brought here antique dishes, items of folk costume, musical instruments, yellowed from time to time family photos. From these individual fragments, a full-fledged historical canvas was created, which reflects the culture of the people, its traditional life, professional preferences, and even sports achievements.
On the basis of the Basque cultural center there is a shop where you can buy goods with national symbols, books and CDs, souvenirs and gifts.
