Description:
The Catholic parish of Notre Dame was founded in 1869, and was located in a large wooden church in the town of South Bridge, Massachusetts. By the beginning of the XIX century, the community grew strongly due to the influx of immigrants from Canada, France and Ireland. Construction of a new church has begun. Architect Joseph Vennet, a Canadian, built three Catholic churches in Massachusetts, the last of which is Notre Dame. The construction of the church lasted 5 years and was completed in 1916.
The brick building of the church in the style of the French Renaissance is lined with white marble, the roof is covered with red Spanish tiles. A large organ accompanies services with beautiful masses. The organ was installed by the famous Canadian firm Casavant in 1916.
In 1989, the church was included in the National Register of Historic Places.
