210 Massachusetts Ave, Boston, MA 02115, USA

Description:

The first Church of Christ, or Church of Christian Science, was built in Boston in 1894. It is the administrative center of religious teaching called the Boston Church of Christ. The founder of this church, Mary Baker Eddy, was able to recover from a serious and debilitating illness by turning to God. The first congregation of the Church of Christ was founded in Boston in 1879. Today, this teaching unites about 1,700 branches of churches in 80 countries.

The church building combines elements of Renaissance and Byzantine architectural concepts. Granite mined in New Hampshire was used for construction. The temple holds about 900 people. The church is decorated with frescoes, mosaic works and stained glass windows depicting biblical events. The floor in the temple is covered with slabs of Italian marble, and the benches for parishioners are made of red Canadian birch.

The church has one of the largest organs in the world, 13,389 pipes built in 1952.
