Town Hall in Firehaven
40 Center St, Fairhaven, MA 02719, USA
Description:
Fairhaven Town Hall, a small town located in southern Massachusetts, 80 km from Boston, was built in 1892 with the donation of businessman and philanthropist Henry Rogers. It was originally intended to house all city services: city government offices, post office, police, and even a few prison cells. The City Hall is now located here.
The building of the town hall made of red brick is made in the Gothic French style. In the center of the building there is a pointed tower, on top of which there is a city clock. Three large arches give solemnity to the main entrance to the building. Inside the interiors of the building are decorated with oak panels and stained glass.
The magnificent auditorium on the second floor was restored in 1990-1992. It has been the site of many city events, balls, concerts, performances and theatrical performances. But the most significant event was the performance in 1894 of the writer Mark Twain, a friend of Henry Rogers, on the stage of this hall.
