Trinity church

206 Clarendon St, Boston, MA 02116, United States

Description:

The Trinity Episcopal Church, located in Copley Square in Boston, was built in 1877 by the American architect Henry Richardson. Architectural experts unanimously consider the Trinity Church one of the best examples of cult architecture in the country. Some, such as James O'Gorman, described it as a cultural phenomenon of paramount importance in the history of the United States.

The location of the church only emphasizes its magnificent architectural forms. The Church of the Trinity is located at the foot of a magnificent mirror skyscraper, in the mirror walls of which its luxurious facades are reflected.

Any construction around the temple is prohibited, so surrounded by a green lawn with bright colors, it resembles a small oasis in the middle of the metropolis. It is not only one of the oldest churches, but also one of the first temples created by American architects.

The walls of the Trinity Church are made of granite and sandstone, due to which the building seems especially impressive and monumental. The weight of one of the towers alone is about 90 million pounds.

In order to hold this huge mass, more than 4,000 pillars of cedar were hammered into the ground below groundwater level at the base of the church. This is done so that the wood avoids contact with the air and does not break down. The uniqueness of the design is that the piles have not changed since the foundation of the church.
