Unitary Memorial Church

102 Green St, Fairhaven, MA 02719, USA

Description:

A unitary memorial church in the small town of Fairhaven, located 80 km south of Boston, was built in 1901. The money was donated to Fairhaven native Henry H. Rogers, a businessman and philanthropist. Henry Rogers was one of the key figures of John D. Rockefeller’s largest Standard Oil Corporation.

The church is built in the Gothic style, the height of the bell tower reaches 56 meters. The church is built from local granite, which is mined near the city at Fort Phoenix, and limestone brought from Indiana. Artful carvers decorated the facade of the building and interiors with stone carvings. The stained-glass windows, drawn from sketches by artist Robert Reid of New York, give a special splendor to the temple. In 1996, the church was included in the National Register of Historic Places.

Nearby is the pastor’s house, made in the Tudor style. There is currently a children's Sunday school.
