Hyde Park

Chicago, IL 60637, USA

Description:

The Chicago suburb of Hyde Park is known today primarily for two things: the famous University of Chicago and the personal home of current US President Barack Obama, in which he lived before moving to the White House.

The university is the foundation around which the life of the whole district is concentrated. Established in 1890 by the first-ever dollar billionaire, John Rockefeller, the University has held the highest scientific bar for all these years. The University complex includes 250 buildings located on 210 acres of Hyde Park.

Another page in the history of this area is the World Exhibition of 1893, dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America by Columbus. Especially for its implementation, more than two hundred wooden buildings were built, painted mainly in white, which had the appearance of capital structures. By the way, in one of them the Museum of Science and Industry still operates today. For those who are interested in the African roots of American history, it will be interesting to visit the Du Sable Museum – this is how the name of the first official resident of Chicago, born in the marriage of a French sailor and a black African slave, sounded.

For lovers of architectural "highlights" a real gift will be "House of Robie" - the creation of Frank Lloyd Wright. The house, built in 1910, looks surprisingly modern and stylish. And, perhaps, the main advantage of Hyde Park is a large number of green spaces, including park areas, squares and the shore of Lake Michigan.
