National Greek Museum
333 South Halsted Street, Chicago IL, 60661
About the company:
The National Greek Museum is the first and only major museum in the United States dedicated to Greek history from ancient times to the present day. Chicago is one of the world’s largest centers of compact residence of ethnic Greeks, so it is not surprising that this city was chosen to open the museum.
The collection of the Greek Museum reflects a huge time period: from 1200 BC to the present day. The museum has about 7000 exhibits in the sections of antiquities, folk products and modern art. His collection includes samples of ancient ceramics of Cyprus, ancient photographs, dishes, handmade textiles, national costumes, musical instruments, documents and much more. Part of the collection, titled Gods and Mythological Heroes of Ancient Greece, is fully interactive. For example, the youngest visitors can climb a four-meter Trojan horse.
The museum constantly hosts literary and art exhibitions, evenings of national music, and invites representatives of the Greek population to meet and communicate. The library of the Greek Museum contains 10,000 books, and the archives of the museum contain hundreds of documentary evidence of the history of the Greeks of America.
